The problem

A digital product seller was fulfilling every order by hand. An order arrived, someone checked payment, found the right product, emailed it out, and updated a spreadsheet. At low volume this is tedious. At hundreds of orders a day it is impossible, and mistakes start costing real money and refunds.

Inventory was the sharper problem. With no real-time stock tracking, the store kept selling items that had run out, which meant refunds, angry customers, and a support burden that grew faster than the revenue did.

What I built

An end-to-end order management system: payment verification, automated digital delivery on confirmation, real-time inventory that decrements atomically at purchase, and a seller CRM tying orders to customer history.

Delivery automation is the piece that removed the daily work. Payment confirms, the correct product is allocated and delivered, inventory updates, and the customer record is written — with no human in the loop and no window where two buyers can be sold the same unit.

Technical decisions that mattered

Inventory decrements run inside a database transaction with row-level locking. Under concurrent purchases this is the difference between selling exactly what you have and overselling during your best traffic spike.

Stripe webhooks are processed idempotently. Payment providers retry, networks drop, and events arrive twice — a system that fulfils an order twice because of a duplicate webhook is a system that loses money quietly.

Outcome

The system now handles 500+ daily transactions with no manual fulfilment. The work that used to consume a person's day happens automatically, and overselling stopped entirely once stock became transactional.

The platform remains in active use and continues to be extended as the catalogue grows.
